DIY: Father’s Day Handprint T-Shirt

(This post was originally published on June 14, 2012)

Every year for Father’s Day, I help the kids make a hand print craft… something that marks the passage of time and shows us how small they were and how big they’ve become.  One of my favorite crafts is a hand printed t-shirt.  My husband is a t-shirt and jeans guy.  He always wears his father’s day Ts with pride.

Make your own! It’s fast and simple.

1.  Get a plain t-shirt (usually $3.50 or so at places like JoAnn Fabrics and Michael’s Crafts).
2.  Pick up some fabric paint in fun colors.
3.  Dip your children’s hands (and/or feet) into the paint and then have them leave their prints behind on the shirt. I wish I had used all silver for the hand prints but I let the kiddos pick the colors.

4.  Don’t forget to paint the year somewhere on the shirt so you remember when their hands were so small.  My husband also said he wants the words Father’s Day on his next one.

5.  It should dry within 24 hours.

6.  Present it to dad wrapped in newspaper that the kiddos have decorated especially for him.

My husband has a couple of these.  This year we will be adding another since this is our Finale’s first Father’s Day with Daddy : )

Happy Father’s Day!
