How to Turn a Coffee Maker into a Fish Bowl

How to Turn a Coffee Maker into a Fish Bowl

I’m not sure if you are aware, but I love coffee. In fact, I can’t go more than a couple of hours without coffee (I’m aware of how sad that is.) So you can imagine how upset I was when my old faithful coffee pot […]

10 Amazing Recycled Crafts for the 4th of July

This spring has been so hectic for me that all I’ve had the time to do is browse Pinterest on my smartphone and pin like a mad woman.  My own creative ideas have fallen by the wayside.  But I won’t let that stand in my […]

DIY: Easy Toilet Paper and Hanger Birdfeeder

I don’t know about you, but I seem to break a lot of children’s hangers.  There always seems to be a hanger lying on the floor under a stuffed animal that breaks when someone steps on it. Or a kiddo who’s too short to reach the bar in the closet yanks an article of clothing down and breaks the hanger in the process.  I wanted to find a way to reuse these hangers.  I had already tried taping them and using them again but the older the tape got the more stickiness came off on the clothing.

While trying to find a clever way to use these little hangers, I started noticing a lot of toilet paper bird feeder how-to’s making their way into my Pinterest feed.

Here are a few examples for you to click through:

I thought it would be a great idea to convert one of these hangers into a bird feeder using toilet paper rolls.  I mean who’s family doesn’t run through toilet paper?  As a family of 5, we always have toilet paper rolls around.

This is the DIY I came up with… yeah I’m pretty proud of it.

Now… make your own:

  • 2 Toilet Paper Rolls or a Paper Towel Roll cut in half
  • Tape: either Scotch, Masking, or Duct
  • Broken Hanger (you can break one yourself if you really want to)
  • Peanut Butter (We used expired peanut butter.)
  • Bird Seed
  • Plate
  • Butter Knife or Spatula

 1.  Using butter knife or spatula, spread peanut butter on toilet paper roll about 1/8 inch thick.

2.  Pour seeds onto plate.  Roll peanut butter covered TP roll in seeds.  Press down to stick seeds in peanut butter.

3.  Repeat steps 1 and 2 with second TP roll.

4.  Slide TP rolls onto broken hanger.

5.  Tape broken part of hanger closed.

6.  Hang outside for the birds to enjoy.  The Adventure and I hung ours outside on a honeysuckle bush that storms had knocked over this past summer.  It’s still growing… just sideways.

As you can see, The Adventure and I had a pretty good time making a mess these bird feeders.

DIY: Upcycled Bottle Canisters

I love having an organized counter (even though it’s not always organized as I would like). I was especially sick of making coffee everyday out of large containers I bought from the store. I made these to have a more convenient way to grab […]
